In his consultation seeking email, Dr. G. Briggs of NASA stated
that as of 2005, they still looking for anti-wear skirt materials for hovercrafts,
well.., this came with no surprise to us, from NASA to Coast-guards, the
Air-cushion skirt materials is a drawback in every operation.
The heavy rear SRN4 for example destroys
21 fingers per week "500 Euros per finger", consuming all the
system's fingers of 117 in less than 6 weeks of operation, with a sheer madness
damage cost of 10500 Euros for replacing the damaged frictional rubber
skirt segments with another vulnerable frictional rubber skirt segments
weekly, until the new
owners of the SRN4 in Canada Asked Hovercollege to put an end for this dilemma
in March 2005, by modernizing the system by it's Patent Pending
Hoverfabric, this did not come out of nothing, it came out of 10 years
of continuous research, $ 1,000,000 of SR&ED expenditures, and one of the
longest periods to build a Ph.D. dissertation, 7 years!, the major
result is the Hoverfabric, the first dedicated fabric for hovercrafts and
Air-cushion vehicles since the first introduction of the new face of the
hovercraft 50 years ago, the main material of the Teflon
Skirt with modified PTFE.
Back in the old Hovercraft Skirt
materials, with too many problems to handle; by using rubber the main
material in car tires to improve stopping because of it's high friction
properties, huge amount of Hovercraft Skirt wear,
with material resonance causing fluttering effect,
ever changing mass load data between materials rubber/vinyl leading to
Hovercraft system instability, All old
materials are un-floatable resulting sever plough
in/ plow in according to the thesis of Dr. Rushwan, it simply happens
because the skirt can't ride the wave!, in his thesis he described the
Protek of his new technology, Also non pliable Hovercraft generic fabrics specially
with so called UHMW, PE, EVA are labeled with bad Water Scooping
plus it's bad flame dripping Hazard, losing
it's physical properties just over 80* C, and the other common problems
of Polyethylene!, beside an easy peeling deferent types of polyurethane
you promise yourself a Myth, also because of the shaky adhesion between Nylon and Vinyl-PVC
causing
in-substrate bubbles in the summer, cracks
in the winter because Vinyl in Hydrophilic, it absorbs water then the
water extends into ice destroying both the vinyl adherence and the
fabric structure because of the substrate's deferent
lengthening / Elongation, both cause un-adequate trimming shape with funny
splash all around the hovercraft, the bad reputation of some Known
Hovercrafts started with the questionable
skirt materials, Also you can add the delay in
reaching the
hump speed because of the high friction between the skirt
material and the water, this drag increases to the extreme just before
the hump speed exactly as in breaking the sound barrier, All non-HoverCollege
Teflon/PTFE
materials failed in reducing this suffering, even Teflon it self through
10 years on HoverCollege research fails
after few strokes because it's original low anti-wear resistance,
until Dr. Rushwan invented his Modified
PTFE HoverFabric low-friction
and High anti-wear, you think the
Hovercraft skirt problems ended here?, think again, Dynamic Air pressure
at high speed exceeds the skirt internal pressure causing deforming the System
design and danger the safety of the craft, Dr.
Rushwan invented the pressurized HoverEdge
Structure methodology to solve this critical concern.
Despite the amazing capabilities of the
Hovercraft, short experimenting history comparing to automotive and
aviation. NRC refused supporting this particular HoverFabric
research, Dr. Rushwan through Hover College decided taking the risk and carrying
all expenses, we have chosen taking the challenge for years!, Dr. Rushwan
reported the research as case studies in his Ph.D. Dissertation, and by the
end of the seventh year, it is here, the first and only Anti-wear HoverFabric in the world
from HoverCollege.
What really matters here, is YOU, our
clients and customers, many of you supported the research by buying the
first amazing stages of the HoverFabric HoverEdge, and Dr. Rushwan's
Thread, furnishing us with your feedback, special thanks to the New
Foundland's search and rescue Hovercraft team, bought all the three
products and furnished us with awesome anti-wear results, please read their
testimonial in the HoverCollege Clients
page, this beside many apreciative customers and clients around the world.
